Access and Authentication

By Invitation Only

ResearchCloud is an invitation-only system. The Administrator for your organization must have all relevant information for new users—like their email addresses, roles, and level in the organizational structure—to create accounts for them.

Note

If you need to use ResearchCloud and don't yet have an invitation, contact your Administrator to request access.

The initial invitation includes a temporary password, which the new user must update upon logging in for the first time. In addition, ResearchCloud requires two-step authentication to prevent unauthorized access.

About Two-Step Authentication

Because ResearchCloud handles medical and personal data, it’s essential to prevent unauthorized access. Two-step verification is a multi-factor authentication (MFA) method in which you present more than one piece of evidence to log in. The evidence consists of:

  • Something you know, like your user ID and password.
    And,

  • Something you possess, like a smart phone or device, to which the system delivers a random code you will need to log in.

This means that you will have to get an app on your device, like Google Authenticator, to serve up the random authentication codes.

Notes

  • You can get Google Authenticator for iOS and Android in the App Store or Google Play, respectively.

  • See First Time Log In for detailed instructions on how to log in for the very first time.

About Multiple-Program Access

It is possible for your organization to manage multiple studies with ResearchCloud. If this is the case and you are invited to a different program, your new invitation:

  • Uses the subject line ResearchCloud Access.

  • Informs you of the name of the program to which you've been added.

  • Reminds you that you can use your existing credentials to log in. (You'll be able to select the program of interest after logging in. See How Multi-Program Access Works for details.)
